Spring Festival (Cherry Blossom Festival) which is so special because the cherry blossoms (sakura) are blooming for only a few weeks, requiring a very specific mood to show their colors.
And one of the joys of Okazaki city is its rich history as it is the birthplace of the Unification Hero Tokugawa Ieyasu, the Ieyasu festival is the main event in the middle of the festivities of the cherry blossoms season (sakura).
Ieyasu was a famous samurai who became a shogun, known for being a brilliant tactician who fought and won many great battles for the Emperor.
This festival offers a chance to remember not only Ieyasu's legacy but also to recognize the performance of the Mikawa warriors, including the four generals serving the Tokugawa clan.
Every year a different celebrity is chosen to play the role of Ieyasu, so crowds are always full of curious people.
About 1.000 people dressed as warriors and horsemen parade along with the Samurai Ieyasu, creating something like a time lapse of the Edo Period. Starting with the opening ceremony at the famous Iga Hachimangu Jinja Shrine, the parade runs through 3.5m to the park. Okazaki (Otogawa River).
This parade consists of cavalry, warriors bearing arms and others with spears, archers with bows and arrows, and so on. Actors make a reenactment of a battle, showing a ninja clan trying to take the castle, Ieyasu and his samurai warriors repel the attack.
Date: The festival is held every year on the first or second Sunday of April
Open Hours: Starting with 13: 30hr.
