The O Ogata Festival (Vagina Festival) Hounen Matsuri, always happens on Sunday but around March 15th, when the Tagata festival (Penis festival) is performed. Like similar fertility festivals, it aims to ensure good harvests and prosperity. The parade is led by Sarutahiko, kami who shows the way, and features single women or the queen of fertility and a huge vaginal symbol made of pink rice, symbol of fertility.
The Oaxata Jinja is a shrine of the city of Inuyama, dedicated to The Oagata, a kami that is said to have founded the local area of Owari. It is known for its feminine fertility symbols and attracts women seeking marriage or the birth of a child. As such The Oaxata Jinja is close to the Tagata Jinja, famous for its Penis festival, also a fertility festival.
A central role is played by Hime no miya, where the daughter of O Ogata is worshiped. Known as Tamahime in the mikoto, she is a goddess of marriage, pregnancy, safe birth and happy married life. She is worshiped as the guardian goddess of women.
Vaginal openings as a source of life have been widely celebrated in the past, and a keen observer will still find many rocks marked as sacred by a shimenawa. After the repression of Meiji in such "primitive" and "embarrassing" characteristics, many were removed from public view or completely destroyed.
