Kushimoto-cho string Our town
Kushimoto (string Our town), is a coastal city located in the Higashimuro district, Wakayama Prefecture in western Japan.
With a total area of 135,78 km², and with a population of 15.530, including about 63 foreigners, being 1 Brazilian, 3 Americans, 15 Koreans, 8 Chinese, 23 Vietnam, 7 Philippines, and others. (data, January 2020).
Due to its location on the Kii Peninsula, it is the path of many typhoons and humid winds of the Kuroshio Current, Kushimoto has a very humid climate, being September the rainiest month. The highest temperatures in Kushimoto is between July e August, reaching almost 37 ° C, and the lowest in December around -2 ° C.
The ancient city of Kushimoto was part of the Nishimuro district, but the city has strong ties to the city of Shingu and the Higashimuro district, for political and economic reasons. Then, with this merger, the city became part of the Higashimuro district. In April 2005, Kushimoto incorporated the city of Koza, in the Higashimuro district, to become the new city of Kushimoto.
Kushimoto is an area of scenic beauty both above and under water and famous for its many coastal rock formations, including Hashigui-Iwa and Umikongo.
Oshima Island is connected to the main city by the Great Kushimoto Bridge, and is home to two museums of foreign origin, the Turkish Memorial and Museum and the United States Friendship Museum.
And although the waves of beaches of Kushimoto are relatively weak compared to world standards, it is considered a popular spot for surfing and a privileged place for diving, with warm waters that shelter a diversity of marine life, it has several diving establishments along the National Highway 42.
